Stay safe
What to do right now
Four simple steps keep you, your family or your staff safe while you get help. Never take chances with electricity.
-
Step 1
Keep away from it
Don’t touch a sparking socket, a scorched fitting or bare wires, and keep children and pets well back.
-
Step 2
Switch off at the fuse box, if it’s safe
Turn off the main switch on your consumer unit (fuse box) — but only if it’s dry and you can reach it without going near the problem.
-
Step 3
Keep clear of water near electrics
If water is coming through a light or into sockets, stay out of the wet area. Only use the main switch if you can reach it from somewhere dry.
-
Step 4
Call us and talk it through
Ring 07999 553 838. We’ll ask a few quick questions about safety, your location and what has happened, then tell you the next step.

Good to know
Emergency electrician questions
Straight answers to what people ask us most — before, during and after a call-out.
Something happening right now? Don’t scroll — call.
24/7 emergency line07999 553 838Do you really answer the phone at night?
Yes. Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. Call 07999 553 838.
How much does an emergency call-out cost?
It depends on the fault and the time of day, so ask when you call and we’ll tell you. Once we’re with you, we find the cause first, then explain the fix and the price before we go ahead — nothing starts until you’ve agreed it.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
A burning smell or scorch marks around sockets, switches or the fuse box; sparking; damaged or exposed live cables; water getting into electrics; or losing power to all or part of the property when you can’t reset it. If in doubt, call and ask.
Is it a power cut or a fault in my home?
Look outside. If the street lights and your neighbours’ homes are dark too, it’s probably a power cut — call 105 to report it. If only your property is off, check your consumer unit for a switch in the off position. If it won’t reset, or keeps tripping, call us on 07999 553 838.
Why does my electricity keep tripping?
A trip switch (an RCD or a circuit breaker) is doing its job: it cuts the power when it detects a fault or an overload. A faulty appliance is a common cause, so unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it. If it trips again or won’t reset, leave it off and call us to trace the fault.
Should I switch off the electricity at the fuse box?
If you can see sparks or smoke, smell burning, or water is getting into the electrics, turn off the main switch — but only if the consumer unit is dry and you can reach it safely. Not sure? Call us first and we’ll talk you through it.
What happens if it can’t be fixed straight away?
If something is dangerous, we tell you plainly and make it safe before we leave. If more work is needed, we explain your options and the price first, so you can decide.
Can you repair faulty sockets, switches and lights?
Yes — fault finding and repairs are one of our core services, from a dead socket or flickering lights to a circuit that keeps failing. We find the cause first, then explain the fix and the price before we go ahead.
Are you qualified?
Yes. Local Electrician 24-7 is an NICEIC Approved Contractor. Where the work needs it, you get the right certificate, and notifiable work is registered with building control.
Which areas do you cover?
We’re based on Seymour Grove in Old Trafford and cover Manchester and the surrounding areas, including Salford, Trafford, Chorlton, Didsbury, Wythenshawe and Stockport. Not sure? Call and ask, or send your postcode with the form at the top of this page.
Do you help landlords and businesses too?
Yes. We work in homes, rented properties, shops, offices and industrial units. If you’re a landlord or letting agent, we can arrange access with your tenant directly.
Can I send a message instead of calling?
Yes — use the call-back form at the top of this page or message us on WhatsApp. Forms and messages are picked up during office hours, so if it’s urgent, please call 07999 553 838.
