What we collect when you contact us, book with us or use this website — why we need it, who sees it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
This website and our electrical services are run by Local Electrician 24-7 Ltd ("we", "us"). We decide how your personal information is used, which makes us the controller of it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Local Electrician 24-7 Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16472847. Registered office: 23 Assheton Crescent, Manchester M40 1NN. We trade from Grove House, Seymour Grove, Old Trafford, Stretford, Manchester M16 0TU.
Questions about this policy or your information: email office@localelectrician24-7.co.uk or call 07999 553 838.
What we collect
We only collect what we need for the job in hand. Depending on how you deal with us, that can include:
| When | What we collect |
|---|---|
| You call, WhatsApp or email us | Your name, phone number or email, and whatever you tell us about the job — for example the address, the problem and any photos you send. |
| You send our enquiry form | Your name, mobile number, postcode, a preferred callback time and what you need help with. |
| You book an EICR online | The property type and size, your chosen date and arrival time, the appointment address and postcode, your name, mobile number and email, the name and phone number of anyone letting us in for you, any comments, and how you chose to pay. |
| You pay online | Card payments go straight to Stripe through a secure card box, and PayPal payments to PayPal. We receive a confirmation and the last digits of the card — never the full card number or security code. |
| We carry out the work | Details of the property and its electrical installation, test results, photos of the installation, and the reports and certificates we issue, which include the property address and the client's name. |
| You use this website | The technical information any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type, kept briefly in our host's server logs for security. Postcode letters you type into the booking form are sent to Google to suggest addresses. |
Health information. If you tell us about medical equipment, a disability or anything else that affects how we should work at the property, we use it only to plan the visit safely — for example, to avoid switching off power to essential equipment without warning. You don't have to tell us, and we don't ask for more than we need.
How we use it, and our lawful basis
Data protection law asks us to say which lawful basis applies each time we use your information:
| What we use it for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Answering your enquiry and giving you a price | Taking steps you asked for before a contract |
| Booking, confirming and carrying out the work, and arranging access with you, your tenant or your agent | Contract |
| Taking payment and handling refunds | Contract |
| Issuing reports and certificates, and notifying building control where the work requires it | Contract and legal obligation |
| Keeping tax and accounting records | Legal obligation |
| Keeping records of our work so we can answer questions about it later and deal with any complaint or claim | Legitimate interests |
| Keeping our website and payments secure and preventing fraud | Legitimate interests |
| Using health information you give us to plan a safe visit | Your explicit consent, given when you tell us |
We don't send marketing emails or texts. We contact you about your enquiry, your booking and the work we do for you. We don't make decisions about you by automated means.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only where it's needed to do the work or the law requires it:
- Our website host, SiteGround — the website, its forms and the bookings made through them are stored on their servers.
- Stripe and PayPal — to take payments and make refunds. Each is responsible for the card and account details you give them.
- Google — the booking form uses Google Maps to suggest postcodes as you type, our reviews come from our Google Business Profile, and the website's fonts are loaded from Google. Google receives your IP address when these load.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — only if you choose to message us there.
- NICEIC — we are an NICEIC Approved Contractor. Where work has to be notified under the Building Regulations, the property address and details of the work are passed to NICEIC so that your local authority building control can be notified and a compliance certificate sent. NICEIC may also review samples of our work and paperwork during assessments.
- Landlords, letting agents and tenants — if a landlord or agent books the work, we share the report with them and use the tenant's contact details only to arrange access.
- Our accountant, HMRC and other authorities — where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Information sent outside the UK
Some of the services above — such as Google, Stripe, PayPal and Meta — may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they use the protections UK law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that don't lead to any work | Up to 12 months, then deleted |
| Customer, booking and payment records | 6 years after the end of the financial year they relate to, as tax law requires |
| Electrical reports, certificates, test results and job photos | 6 years from the date of the work, so we can answer questions about it |
| Health information you gave us for a visit | Deleted once the job is finished, unless you ask us to keep it for future visits |
| Google reviews shown on our reviews page | Refreshed daily and never kept for more than 30 days |
| Website server logs | A short period set by our host, for security |
Cookies
We don't use analytics, advertising or social media tracking cookies. The only ones you may get are the ones that make the site work:
- Stripe sets cookies on the booking page to help stop card fraud.
- Google Maps may store a little information in your browser when the postcode suggestions are used.
- WordPress sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the website — not for visitors.
Because these are strictly necessary for the service you asked for, we don't ask for permission first. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but online booking and payment may then not work.
Reviews shown on this website
Our reviews page shows reviews that customers have published on our Google Business Profile, with the reviewer's name and profile photo as they appear on Google. We don't edit them. To change or remove your review, edit it on Google and our page will follow within a day.
Keeping it safe
Our website uses an encrypted (https) connection, access to bookings and customer records is limited to the people who need it, and card details are handled only by Stripe and PayPal. No system is completely secure, but if something went wrong that put you at risk, we would tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that's wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information, where we don't need to keep it by law;
- restrict how we use it, or object to us using it for our legitimate interests;
- send it to you, or to someone else, in a common electronic format;
- stop using health information you gave us, by withdrawing your consent.
Email office@localelectrician24-7.co.uk or call 07999 553 838. It's free, and we'll reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are first.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first at office@localelectrician24-7.co.uk so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if the way we use information changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
