Booking and areas

Which areas do you cover?

Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Chorlton, Didsbury, Wythenshawe, Stockport and the rest of South Manchester. If you're nearby but not sure, send us your postcode and we'll tell you straight away.

How do I book an electrician?

Call us on 07999 553 838, send a WhatsApp message or email office@localelectrician24-7.co.uk. EICRs can also be booked online: choose a day and an arrival time on our EICR page and pay by card when you book.

How soon can you come out?

For emergencies, call us at any time — day or night, seven days a week. Online EICR bookings start from the next day, Monday to Saturday, with arrival times between 7am and 7pm. For other planned work we'll agree a time with you when we quote.

Can I change or cancel a booking?

Yes. Online EICR bookings come with free cancellation. Call or message us as soon as you know, and we'll cancel it or move it to a time that suits you better.

Do you work with landlords, letting agents and businesses?

Yes. We work in homes, rented properties, and commercial and industrial premises. For landlords and agents we handle EICRs, remedial work and tenant repairs, and a tenant or agent can let us in — you don't need to be there yourself.

Emergencies and faults

Do you offer a 24/7 emergency electrician?

Yes. If it's urgent, call 07999 553 838 at any hour. We'll ask a few quick questions about safety, your location and what has happened, then tell you the next step.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

A burning smell or scorch marks around sockets, switches or the fuse box; sparking; damaged or exposed live cables; water getting into electrics; or losing power to all or part of the property when you can't reset it. If in doubt, call and ask.

What should I do while I wait for you?

Keep away from anything damaged and don't touch it. If it's safe to reach, switch off the main switch on your consumer unit. If there's fire or smoke, get everyone out and dial 999. For damage to the incoming supply — the service cable or the sealed cut-out next to your meter — call 105, the free number for your local electricity network.

Why does my electricity keep tripping?

A trip switch (an RCD or a circuit breaker) is doing its job: it cuts the power when it detects a fault or an overload. A faulty appliance is a common cause, so unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it. If it trips again or won't reset, leave it off and call us to trace the fault.

Can you repair faulty sockets, switches and lights?

Yes — fault finding and repairs are one of our core services, from a dead socket or flickering lights to a circuit that keeps failing. We find the cause first, then explain the fix and the price before we go ahead.

EICRs and certificates

What is an EICR?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report: an inspection and test of the fixed wiring, consumer unit, sockets, switches and fittings. Each issue is coded — C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous), C3 (improvement recommended) or FI (further investigation needed) — and the report says whether the installation is satisfactory. Landlords often call it a landlord electrical safety certificate.

How much does an EICR cost?

£69 for any domestic property — a studio flat and a five-bedroom house are the same price. That covers the inspection, the testing and your report, with no call-out fee and no charge per circuit. Any remedial work is quoted separately and itemised. Commercial and industrial premises are priced on application.

How often do I need an EICR?

For privately rented homes in England, at least every five years, and landlords must give tenants a copy of the report. Owner-occupied homes are generally advised every ten years. Your report recommends the date for the next one, and big alterations or a change of occupancy can bring it forward.

How long does an EICR take, and will the power be off?

For an average home, often two to four hours; larger properties take longer. The power needs to be off for parts of the testing, not the whole visit. Tell us in advance about home working, freezers or medical equipment and we'll plan around them.

What happens if my report is unsatisfactory?

It means one or more items were coded C1, C2 or FI. We'll explain each one and how urgent it is, and give you an itemised quote to put it right. Anything immediately dangerous is made safe at the time wherever possible, and you're never obliged to use us for the remedial work.

Upgrades, prices and paperwork

Do you replace old fuse boxes?

Yes — consumer unit (fuse box) upgrades are one of our core services. Common reasons to replace one are an old rewireable-fuse box, a board without RCD protection, or one flagged on an EICR. We check the installation first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Do you install EV chargers?

Yes, we install home EV chargers. We'll check that your supply and consumer unit can take the extra load, suggest the best spot for the charger, and quote before anything is fitted.

Do you fit smoke and heat alarms?

Yes, in homes and rented properties. In England, landlords must have a smoke alarm on every storey used as living accommodation — we'll check what your property needs.

Can you give me a price before visiting?

Often, yes. A description and a few photos are usually enough for useful guidance. Where testing or investigation is needed first, we'll explain the likely process and charges before any work goes ahead.

Will I get a certificate or report?

Where the type of work requires certification or a report, the right documentation is provided — an EICR always comes with a full written report — and we'll talk you through what it says.
